Now that December is here, the holiday season is upon us! With so much to do during this time, it’s easy to get swept up in to-do lists and busyness, rather than to take time to slow down and enjoy the season. We’ve put together a list of our favorite holiday activities and traditions near town, in hopes that you and your loved ones can take some time to enjoy them together.
Encinitas Holiday Parade– Thousands of people will line Coast Highway 101 to see floats and bands marching to the parade theme of “This IS Encinitas Life!” Arrive early (5:00pm) to see the tree lighting ceremony at the Lumberyard! Saturday, December 5
Garden of Lights– After sunset, the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas transforms into a winter wonderland. With more than 125,000 lights, nightly entertainment, amazing food, hot coffee and treats, and many family-friendly activities, this is an outing the entire family will enjoy. December 5-23, 26-30
Jungle Bells at the San Diego Zoo– Beautiful lights, delicious food, and incredible performances transform the zoo into a winter wonderland during Jungle Bells. Ride aboard the Twinkle Lights Trolley to tour animal light sculptures, listen to Christmas carols, see acrobatic elves, and much more! December 12- January 3
San Diego Bay Parade of Lights- More than 80 boats participate in this parade on San Diego Bay, making it an incredibly unique and fun holiday experience. There are two chances to catch this sight! December 13 and 20
Gaslamp Holiday Pet Parade– Pet owners and their furry friends can don their favorite holiday sweaters or costumes and head on down to MLK Promenade Park for this parade. With prizes for costumes, cutest critter, and more, this is one event you just can’t miss! December 13
Fantasy on Ice Outdoor Iceskating– Who could miss the chance to go iceskating outside in San Diego? Open daily, this is a unique opportunity to enjoy winter this season. November 19- January 3
The Nutcracker– This timeless holiday classic is brought to you by the City Ballet of San Diego. If you head to a matinee performance, you can stick around to meet members of the cast and take photos! December 11-23
